![]() This July 2021 will mark one full year with the SoulCycle at-home bike. I no longer felt inadequate because I was finally comfortable going on my own exercise journey, at my own pace, and on my own schedule without anyone else watching. The anxiety I used to feel at the gym, surrounded by people I felt were both more experienced and more fit than I was, had gone. Not to mention, SoulCycle’s signature grapefruit candle by Jonathan Adler (which I purchased extra in addition to cycling shoes, hand weights, and socks-I really wanted the full experience!) certainly takes my rides to the next level.Īs the months went by, I felt my procrastination with exercise dissipate. ![]() Once I am on the saddle and I hit go, I’m in the zone. Even if it was for half an hour, it was a time for me to focus fully and completely on my wellbeing. Note, every SoulCycle at-home bike purchase requires a 12-month subscription to the app ($40/month), but it’s free if you’re a current Equinox member.Īs far as my mental health goes, the workouts forced me to take a break from the screen, especially during a time when my days consisted of just work and sleep. Even when I did not bike, I opted for a cardio or ab workout class instead via the Equinox+ app (which includes a broad spectrum of classes from Rumble Boxing to Pure Yoga). Since new classes are added every week, I had no shortage of options. And, of course, instructors are key in shaping every bike ride. Ultimately, the playlists are what lured me to particular classes, so I always tried to search and browse by the song list (LCD Soundsystem, Sam Smith, Whitney Houston, Ellie Goulding, or Calvin Harris) before settling on one. I rode the bike that first day and dare I say, it was actually fun? As previously mentioned, I had never taken a SoulCycle class (yes, there are still some of us out there!), so my experience is truly a novel one. It was July 2020 and it took only one week for the bike to arrive at my doorstep (yes, that quickly even during the pandemic!). But it’s precisely this type of competitiveness that makes me retract from workout classes, and so it was the SoulCycle bike for me. I know many Peloton users who are obsessed with the metrics generated during their rides and competing with one another for a prime spot on the leaderboard. SoulCycle incorporates rhythm into everything it does, plus their mantra of enriching our souls, while albeit cheesy, struck a chord with me. ![]() To be honest, I had never actually taken a SoulCycle class prior, but their at-home bike resonated with me for the simple reason that I love music. I considered what I gravitated to when I did go to the gym, and it was the bike, so my decision was really a no-brainer. As we all found ourselves at home 24/7 in lockdown, I wanted to find a way to stay active, destress, and engage in something that didn’t involve my computer screen, which now sat on my kitchen table/makeshift workspace. Then in 2020, the pandemic hit and everything changed. All my life, I’ve never been what you’d consider an “ exercise” person-someone who wakes up early to go for a run, takes a pilates class, or frankly goes to the gym regularly.
